Justin Beiber - Role model?

Recently, pop star Justin Bieber was charged with driving under the influence, driving with out a license and resisting arrest.  The general consensus is that Bieber is neither remorseful not ashamed of his actions.  Why do you think that is??

Does this incident change your opinion of Justin Bieber (for the better or worse)?

Do super stars have a responsibility to society to be good role models?   Why or why not?

Many students agreed that superstars like Bieber, or Kobe Bryant, or Tiger Woods, etc. do have an obligation to be good role models.  And when they made the decision to go into a career where they would be put on a pedestal, that comes with a responsibility to clean up their act.

Other students believe that we should admire these stars for their talent in their chosen profession, and let their private lives be private.  We don't respect them because of their strong moral character, we respect them because they are really good singers, or ball players.

One student made the observation that it is not the superstars fault that we know so much about their private lives.  It is because of the over zealous media agents that our idols' follies are made so public.

My advice - when you choose to look up to someone, make sure it is for a good reason.  If you are going to emulate anyone, make sure they are the type of person you want to be. Just because you are a fan of someone's work does not necessarily mean that they are your role model.
