After watching the video I hope that students gain a fresh perspective of the blessings in their lives. Every one of my students has so much to be thankful for. And this is not meant to discount the challenges that they face. So many of my students have had to deal with more "adult" situations than I ever have. Many of them have dealt with loss and tragedy already in their young lives. But they have the power to choose their perspective.
After viewing this video of Nick Vujicic students were asked to complete the statement:
"I am so glad that ..."
- I have arms!
- my parents are still together
- I know how to read and write
- I'm alive
- I have friends
- I have a home
The challenge for the rest of the week is to try to deny the urge to feel sorry for themselves, in those moments where they wish for something different, to shift your perspective and take a moment to appreciate all that they do have, and all that they are capable of.
Nick truly shows us that we can choose our view point. We can choose our attitude about the challenges that we face.
